Cooling off in the fountain
(I don't know her name, but she let me take her picture!)

What a chillin' picture! I love the foamy water. Looks like an ad for Dasani or something. :)

So, I've always wondered, what do you say to people when you want to take their photo? Just, "Can I take your picture?" Do they ever ask you why? How do you answer?

Well, I haven't done it in a while. I can be pretty sneaky with friends and family and I usually don't even ask them. Just show them a photo after the fact and they're like, "Hey, when did you take that?"

As far as this particular picture is concerned, I had taken a photo quite a way off. Then we passed by her and I said to Case, "I really want to take her photo!" It's hard to get up the nerve, but you gotta do it if you want that shot! I think I would rather have something more candid, but I barely got the words "can I take your photo" out of my mouth when she gave me a huge grin. Not everyone is like that, and surely most people think it's a strange request. Back when I was about 19, I went around taking photos of people in a park -- wish I'd done a better job, but anyway none of them seemed to mind at all.

That's interesting, thanks. I always wish I could take pics of people but I'm too chicken to ask. I even feel goofy walking around my neighborhood taking pics of inanimate objects.

I know exactly what you mean. I can be like that at times, but then there are times when I get in this 'zone' -- when there is a really great shot that is calling out to me, and I just cannot ignore it. I shut out everything else and just...focus.

What is Leaning Tripod?

My photoblog began in early 2005. I am very passionate about photography, but more about 'the eye' of it than the technical side. I love to share my view of the world, and this is the small space where I choose to do just that.
